Ingredients
- 1 package of phyllo dough (thawed)
- 2 cups of milk
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon of ground cardamom
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
- 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts
- 1 cup of raisins
- 3 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter, melted
Preparation Steps
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
- In a medium saucepan, combine milk, sugar, cinnamon, cardamom, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
- Reduce heat to low and let steep for 10 minutes. Strain the mixture into a clean bowl.
- Add the chopped walnuts and raisins to the bowl with the milk mixture. Stir to combine.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs and melted butter. Add the warm milk mixture to the egg mixture and stir until well combined.
- Layer 1/2 of the phyllo dough in a 9x13-inch baking dish. Pour half of the custard mixture over the phyllo dough.
- Repeat the layers, starting with the remaining phyllo dough and the custard mixture.
- Cut slits on top of the dish to allow steam to escape. Cover the dish with aluminum foil.
- Bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes or until golden brown.
