Bangladeshi-Style Mustard Fish Fry

Ingredients
- fish fillets (4), mustard paste (2 tbsp), coriander powder (1 tsp), cumin powder (1 tsp), turmeric (1/2 tsp), cayenne pepper (1/4 tsp), salt (1 tsp), black pepper (1/2 tsp), vegetable oil (2 tbsp), onions (1), garlic (2 cloves), cilantro (for garnish)
Preparation Steps
- step 1: Mix together mustard paste, coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper in a bowl. Add 1 tablespoon of water and mix well. Add the fish fillets and marinate for 10 minutes.
- step 2: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Remove the fish from the marinade and coat with the mustard paste mixture. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side or until the fish is golden brown and cooked through.
- step 3: Heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in the same pan. Add the onions and cook until they are lightly browned. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute.
- step 4: Add the cooked fish to the pan with the onions and garlic. Stir well to combine.
- step 5: Garnish with cilantro and serve hot.
- step 6: Serve with steamed rice or roti.
